t/n: this case is huge in Korea right now because of how bizarre the case is, read more: https://www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2021/05/03/skorea-South-Korea-medical-student-dead-Han-River/1021620065655/ and http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20210503000889. A 22 y'o medical student was found dead in the Han river. He was last seen drinking with a friend near Han river park. Autopsy revealed wounds behind his ear, cheeks, teeth, etc. The weird thing is that both fell asleep while drinking and when he woke up, the friend mentioned that Son has disappeared so the friend ended up leaving the park.
"Missing student's body in Han River, father "The friend who was with him refuses to apologize directly""
Son (50), the father of the late Son Jungmin (22), found dead after five days of disappearing in the Han River, is frustrated that he did not receive a proper apology from his friend A who was together with his son [at the last time he was seen] and A's parents' directly.
The father met with a reporter at Jungmin's mortuary in Gangnam St. Mary's Hospital in Seoul on the 3rd and said, "If only that friend called me instead of calling his parents at 3:30AM in the morning, Jungmin wouldn't have died. "I should at least receive an apology for not receiving any calls until 5AM in the morning."
A is said to have yet to visit Jungmin's mortuary/funeral, which was set up on the 1st.
It is estimated that Jungmin went missing after drinking alcohol with A in Han River Park at around 11 p.m. on the 24th of last month and slept/passed out at the site. It is reported that A spoke with his parents on a phone call at around 3:30 a.m. on the following day, telling them that Jungmin was sleeping and couldn't be waken up from being drunk. A fell asleep again for 1 hour and when he woke up, Jungmin wasn't there anymore. Thinking that Jungmin already went home, A also headed home.
In response, the father said, "Using common sense, if he fell asleep and couldn't be woken up, shouldn't A have called Jungmin's own parents instead?" "Why didn't he call us right away? Even if he was drunk as he claims he was, he should've at least contacted his own parents." (t/n: a bit of confusion here, the father meant for A to call his own parents prior to 3:30AM)
At around 4:30 am, A was caught leaving the park on the Banpo intersection's CCTV, but Jungmin was not seen with him. The time of disappearance is judged to have happened between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m. when Mr. A called with Jung Min's parents.
"The wound appearing as a result of being in the water doesn't matter... How he got into the water is the key"
Jungmin's parents have been looking for him since dawn [on the same day of his disappearance]. A was the one who was carrying his phone. A said that he later realized that he swapped phones with Jungmin. Meanwhile, A's cell phone, which had disappeared, could not be connected.
The father said, "The wounds created due to the body being in the water is not important" and "how he even got into the water is the key." He also confessed, "It is frustrating to have to rely only on a friend's testimony."
As a result of visual inspection by the National Institute of Forensic Science, Jungmin's body had a cut, the size of two fingers, on the back of the left ear. The autopsy results are expected to come out around mid-month.
On the 29th of last month, the father also said he was taken aback about the fact that A showed up with a lawyer during the hypnosis session that the police had conducted against A.
In a phone call with the father, he also raised doubts about the fact that A's father had said he had gotten rid of A's shoes. Jungmin's father said, "As a normal person I asked his wife [about the shoes]" and "However, when I checked, they said that they've thrown the shoes in 0.5 seconds" He continued, "They said that A's father threw away the shoes because they were dirty, but I went to Banpo Han River' Park myself and there were no muddy ground anywhere."
The father said, "I'm thinking of appointing a lawyer, and if something comes out after an investigation by the police, I'm thinking of going to trial (against A)."

1. If I were A, I would've contacted the parents...If I couldn't do it over the phone, I would've at least texted. This situation is mental. I can understand the friend not calling the dad because he didn't want the father to start bombarding with questions about this and that because the situation itself was so frightening. But I still think that the right thing to do would've been to apologize for not contacting the father...Even if he wasn't directly involved in the student's death, he was still the last person to have seen him and he was also a close friend. If I were him, I couldn't help but think what I could've done different so that he would still be alive now...
2. But.... His own friend just died... I know that A is having it hard too but... Shouldn't he at least attend the funeral of his own close friend especially when he was the last one seen with him?...If the friend is having a mental breakdown and can't bring himself to go, at least his mom should've went for him... But in the end, he never showed up to the funerals? It's funny that people claim he didn't go because he didn't want to look suspicious, but all suspicions aside, shouldn't you go as a humane gesture? If he really couldn't go, he could've at least called. Does he think that apologizing to the family would make him the main culprit? A doesn't have the confidence to call himself, but shouldn't he be normally calling his friend's family to give them some comfort? If you're the friend who called someone to go hang out at Han river and this kind of situation happens, won't you feel at least a bit sorry? Isn't it obvious that he should expect people to swear at him?
3. I can understand some of Theqoo readers pitying A for being framed as the culprit, but there's no smoke without fire. Do you think people will think he looks suspicious for no reason? And the apology aside, A should be investigated regardless of whether he's a friend just for being with him in the first place. It's f*cking nonesense that A should be ruled out just because he's a friendㅋ
4. If I was the family of the student who passed away, I would've given the same interview the father gave. And if I was the family of the friend, I can also understand not saying anything about this. But are these people able to put themselves in each other's shoes? I feel like both sides are just busy listening their own words
5. How is he supposed to call them? Can he even recall their phone number? Right now, the father is talking in a way that he's almost framing the friend as the culprit. Does everyone here know their university friends' parents' numbers?
> But it's said that the parents have each other's contacts
> But the thing is, they already have each other's contacts and Jungmin's family were also contacted on the day of the incident before Jungmin came outㅋㅋ
6. His own son died, do you think he's able to stay impartial in this? And looking at his dad, he's actually acting way more objective than other parents in similar cases before
7. But why should A apologize? Wouldn't that make him look suspicious? The friend is also f*cking pitiful now. He's a young kid too and he just acted careless when he went to drink with his friend and now he's being treated like a murderer from the nation
8. Why should the friend apologizeㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ There's nothing definitive that came out from the caseㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ To be honest, his son isn't a minor anymore, he's an adult. It's not the place for his friend to apologize if his son decides to come out and drink at night. And if the friend turns out to be innocent, what is he going to do after all the damage he's cause already? If he's really the criminal, it will be revealed in the end, he'll get sworn at and get the punishment he deserves anyways no? But who will compensate for the damage if it's the other way around?
9. But they were together, so I think he should've at least apologized...
If I were the friend, I would've definitely apologize... Even though it's not something to be sorry for (I don't mean it in the way he was responsible for the student's death). I'm sure the father also wants him to apologize in this way too

10. I can completely understand the fathers' mind.
No matter how you look at it, this situation happened when they were together. As a parent you won't be able to help but to feel suspicious if you received no condolences nor apology after that. That friend's parents are also not acting like parents here
11. Why is everyone pretending to be so cool over this situation here?... Imagine a friend you hung out with just died and you were the only one who survived, isn't "I'm sorry" the first thing that would come out from your mouth? Even if you weren't at fault...
12. The friend and his family just seem selfish here... There are so many media that are making the friend look so suspicious right now, and he might feel like a burden to go to the funerals, but as a human, he should've still attended. If those parents know how precious their own kid is, they should know how precious other kids are too. Besides, Jungmin went missing. Jungmin's father also didn't act like this in his first interviews. He was firm about his own son making a mistake at first. However, as the situation is unfolding, about how the parents threw away A's shows and about how A is hiring a lawyer, and not attending the funerals, of course things changed. I would've acted the same too. Anyways, I just want this situation to be resolved soon..
