Lee Hyori's Instagram is being flooded with hate comments from Chinese netizens (140,000 comments in two days) for allegedly making a derogatory comment about Mao Zedong on an episode of 'Hangout with Yoo'. While discussing nicknames with Yoo Jae Suk, she offered, "Should we go with a Chinese name? So we can go more global. How about Mao?"

1. [+4,031, -23] Who do the Chinese think they are to be butting in on another country's variety show...? How about they direct their comments towards taking down their own shows that are plagiarized from our country's.

2. [+2,236, -29] I never even thought of Mao Zedong when she offered the nickname Mao. It's not like Koreans think of King Sejong whenever they hear the syllable Se in a name. And didn't you read the screencaps? The Mao comes from a Korean phrase. It's like if some Chinese person said Se and we assumed they were referring to King Sejong.

3. [+266, -3] Hul, 140,000 comments! No wonder the Chinese are able to manipulate comments in Korean media sites! So the rumors were true!

4. [+215, -1] If a foreign star nicknamed themselves 'Sejong', Koreans would be happy for them. The Chinese are so intolerant.

5. [+174, -3] Well this just confirms that there are groups of Chinese commenters who manipulate comment sections in Korean media.

6. [+147, -3] All this fuss over something that's barely controversial. Your country has caused so much physical stress and death all over our own country, you should be feeling sorry for us.

7. [+136, -4] Is Mao Zedong the only Mao who exists in China? I don't get why Hyori's getting hate for this.. It's not like she made fun of Mao's name or anything by calling it Mao Butthole ㅡㅡㅋ

8. [+129, -7] Everyone, take a good look. 140,000 Chinese comments on one celebrity's account. There are tons more Chinese comments on Korean portal sites than you would think.

9. [+88, -1] That's just ridiculous. So is Asada Mao Chinese too??? The Chinese are so weird.

10. [+91, -5] There's a Japanese singer named Mao, voice actor named Ichimichi Mao, and what about figure skater Asada Mao?
