On March 30, a source from the drama released an official statement following an article by Market News which reported that “The King: Eternal Monarch” made a one-sided decision to remove an actor without discussion or notice.
The full statement is below:
The article about “The King: Eternal Monarch” abuse of power regarding casting is not true.
After checking the facts with the casting director team, we learned that the actor mentioned in the “casting power abuse” reports was cast in October 2019 as a detective. But after the script was changed, the character’s age became older and the final casting fell through.
However, there was a delay during the casting director’s process of communicating the casting news and it resulted in a misunderstanding with the actor’s agency. The casting director later apologized and the director personally called to explain the situation as to why the casting fell through. The actor and the actor’s agency understood the situation and it was peacefully resolved. We greatly regret the reports of the “casting abuse of power” ahead of our premiere. “The King: Eternal Monarch” will continue to try our best in order to make a good project. Thank you.
Penned by hit drama writer Kim Eun Sook, “The King: Eternal Monarch” is a highly anticipated fantasy romance drama starring popular actors such as Lee Min Ho, Kim Go Eun, and Woo Do Hwan.
The series is set to premiere on April 17 at 10 p.m. KST as the follow-up to “Hyena.”
