On November 1, BTS and Bang Sihyuk, the CEO of Big Hit Entertainment attended the agreement ceremony for a campaign against global youth violence. BTS will run he campaign in collaboration with UNICEF, while it's the first time that a k-pop artist launched a global campaign with the organization. BTS and Big Hit Entertainment will donate 500 million won through their "Love Myself" fund, and they will also donate parts of the proceeds of their albums and goods to support UNICEF's "#ENDviolence" campaign.
Well, BTS absolutely does a great thing, but some of you might take it for granted because BTS is one of the most popular k-pop stars who earn lots of money and there are many other idols who donate big money to charity. However, BTS' campaign is quite different from the other idols', and the campaign is very special for some reasons.
First, BTS is not an honorary ambassador for UNICEF, which means the boy group doesn't receive any money from the organization. There are many idols who do good things, but some of them just want to become honorary ambassadors for big organizations because they can receive a lot of money and pretend to be "donation angels". But, BTS launched its campaign with UNICEF just because the team wanted to have a good influence on the world and thought UNICEF could be its best partner.
Second, BTS members themselves decided to launch their campaign. Actually, some of idols do good things because their agencies push them to do such things, which means they don't want to help others but do good things to hold good images with the public. According to Bang Sihyuk, BTS members talked a lot about their campaign during their Wings Tour and decided to launch the campaign to make the world more beautiful.
Third, BTS has been singing about social issues since its debut, and by launching the campaign, the team translated words into action. You know, it's easier said than done, and there are many people whose words and actions do not correspond. But, BTS members, who have shown great interest in social issues showed people that they mean it through their actions.
So, check out what BTS members said at the agreement ceremony.
Rap Monster
We've been loved by so many people since we debuted, and I'm so happy that we got a chance to give back. I don't think we can change the whole world, but I want to have a positive effect on young people.
Suga
I've been looking forward to launching a great project and I'm honored to realize the dream.
J-Hope
I'm so happy that we can realize mature social value in a special way.
Jimin
I'm honored to launch the project with UNICEF. It's our first time to do such a thing, and we don't know how helpful we are going to be, but we would like to help in any way we can.
Jungkook
During our world tour, I've watched UNICEF's promotional videos a lot in the plane. I'm happy that I had such a glorious opportunity.
Jin
My father used to tell me to become a person who is helpful to others. I'll boast to my father about our great project.
V
When I was a student, I've seen many victims of school violence. I hope our campaign is of some help to them.
